E-Invoicing in the EU, background information

FatturaPA (Ita), X-Rechnung (Ger) and CFDI (Mex), these digital onvoice formats all serve the same purpose:

Increased transparency and clarity in invoicing processing.

In addition to the high loss of VAT of up to 37% in Europe, simplification and associated cost reduction of Europe-wide/EU-wide invoice processing is achieved.

In Italy, this unified invoice processing, known as e-invoicing, will become mandatory from 1 January 2019. This is due to the fact that Italy is losing at 26%, about 3.5 billion euros per year.

Germany has only 9% or approx. 2.23 billion euros per year to report.

This means Italy is at the forefront in Europe with the use of electronic invoice exchange, which has been used in a similar from only in countries like Turkey or in South America. These countries are already using a so-called clearance model in which invoices with VAT data and other information are exchanged, checked and registeres via a goverment online platform.

IIn Germany, e-invoicing, with X-Rechnung, will become mandatory on 1 January 2020. It is not yet clear wether the ZUGFeRD 2.0 format, which also complies with the European standard EN16931 on electronic invoicing, will actually be accepted.

However, questions seem obvious as for instance wether the own company is already well positioned in connection with FatturaPA XML, EN16931 an co.

We are also exited to see when the next European countries will follow the "Italian model" with its SDI exchange platform.
